The Road Test

Once again P V Dobson Ltd hosted an opportunity for members to try and compare the fine range of Jaguar cars available today. To add a different angle they suggested having a large screen tv available for members to watch the F1 British Grand Prix in the comfort of their showroom surrounded by classics of today and yesteryear. With the Gilpin Bridge Inn, who serve meals all day, being a hundred yards away it seemed an opportunity for a Ride Try Race and Dine.

With members gathering at the Rheged center and having a pleasant drive past Uleswater, over the  and dropping down to Windemere through Bowness and taking the Kendal Road to Levens. I thought this would be a pleasant start to the day. The best laid plans often have a glitch and today due to a happening in Windemere the police made their contribution to our steady progress by creating a diversion. I can only offer my apologies to all who were affected.

For logistical reasons others made a direct journey to Dobson’s.

Presenting our Driving License gave us the keys of opportunity.

Let the journey begin.

F Type – XK 5ltr – XJ – XF – XF Sportbrake

All there for our trying and assessment.

PW I “just” managed to squeeze into the Sportbrake press the button, turn the selector dial to drive and release the electric brake. Off we went for a quick smooth and quiet drive. The rear was capacious and it offered an interesting future prospect for us. Later in the day with hood down I was chauffeured in the superb XK convertible. A dream car – enough to start me on a serious diet? I am not that sure.

CM A very enjoyable day and the staff on duty were so helpful, the difference between a family run business and a multi national company is so obvious.

Watching the F1 British GP

PV Dobsons Solway JaguarWith good friends and classic company, Did we enjoy ourselves?

PV Dobsons Jaguar Oh yes.

GW I had the pleasure of trying out a few cars at Dobson’s including the new F Type, the XF Diesel sport and XK 5.0 V8 Cabriolet. The XK may have been the oldest standing model of the cars I drove on the day but was certainly the most impressive for comfort and performance (it also had the best growl). Due to the above I didn’t get the chance to watch the British GP, so had to refer to BBC I player when I got home. All in all a very good day. Many thanks to P V Dobson’s

BG I drove two cars back to back. The F Type and the XK. The F Type is simply awesome and the XK sublime. It’s a matter of what rules – the heart or the head.

Every bone in my body screams “choose the F Type” but in my head I know I would choose the XK for it’s all round ability, looks and greater practicality.

Only one solution – win the lottery and get both……….
