The Daim's First Classic Car Show   (click on photo to see enlargement and additional photos)

I am ‘The Daim’.  I am a 42 year old Daimler 2½ and have been driven for an average of 230 miles per year.  My Dad says I am an immaculate time warp car!

Three months ago I was carried away from my previous home in sunny Sussex to rainy Cumbria.  Since then I have been carefully taken for short drives and tenderly polished for my first ‘Classic Car Show’. 

I don’t go out in the rain and have never had muddy wheels but after my new Dad had inspected the show field on Saturday it was decided that I could attend on Sunday. 

It had been raining during Saturday night but it looked as though Sunday would be a nice day so Mum & I followed Dad and my friend Goldie (a 20 year old Jaguar XJ6 [XJ40]) to Dalemain.  When we got to the show field Mum & I couldn’t believe the state of the road in.  The overnight rain had made it very wet & muddy.  I didn’t want to get my wheels dirty but Dad & Goldie said to follow them and we would be alright.  We daintily picked our way to the Solway Jaguar Club Stand and Chairman Ken showed us where we had to park.  The Club had a 5 row herring bone display with ‘XK engine vehicles’ on one side and ‘other engine vehicles’ at the other.  After Dad gave my wheels a quick wash, the sun was shining and I felt a lot better and ready to enjoy the Show. 

I met lots of lovely cars.  There were 37 cars on the Club Stand and 2 of our cars elsewhere at the Show.  The Jaguars on display were: 240, D-Type, E-Type, S-Type, X-Type, MK 1, MK 2, XJ-6, XJ-8, XJ-S, XK 140, XK 150, XK8, XKSS and a SS100. The other makes were: Mercedes 350SL, Land Rover, Bentley, Rolls Royce Phantom III and me.  28 of the cars belong to Solway members, 1 car came from the Glasgow Area, 9 from the North East Club and 1 visitor.

Because it was the 60th anniversary year of the XK engine seven of our Jaguars were selected to go into the ring.  They were: XK150, D-Type, XKSS, Mk 2, Mk 1, XJ6 & E-Type.

At the end of the day we received our attendance plaque and made our way home.  Thanks to everyone who worked towards making my first ‘Classic Car Show’ such an enjoyable day out.
